Nassau (1866)
Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the bow, head, trail-board and figurehead for Nassau (1866), a 4-gun First Class gunvessel. The pencilled identity has been confirmed with the Letter Book correspondence. The ship was initially ordered and laid down in 1860 but briefly suspended in 1862-3, before launching in 1866. This explains the six years between the order and the completion.
The figurehead is a three-quarter length bust of a female looking forward. Her hair is tied back in a bun at the nape of her neck and some has escaped around her brow. She is wearing a close-fitting gown with pleated skirts from the angled waistline. The plans also includes pencil markings for scaling up to make the full-sized figurehead.
The plan includes an Admiralty Letter Book number S7813-60.
