John Grieve Sketchbook ca.1822
Unbound, soft-backed volume containing 12 sketches (PAG3781-PAG3791) in graphite, pen and ink or pen and wash, some unfinished or faint. Inscribed ‘12345 JG’ on some pages. Some sketches dated 1822. John Henderson Grieve was a scenery painter in London theatres, including at Drury Lane and in Covent Garden. His sons and grandson continued the family business throughout the nineteenth century, supplying scenery for some of the most important productions of the period.
