Defence of Captain Pearson in 'Serapis', 23 September 1779
This print shows one of John Paul Jones’s most famous exploits. Jones undertook a series of audacious raids along the British coast. On 23 September 1779, while commanding the frigate ‘Bonhomme Richard’, Jones boarded and captured the British warship ‘Serapis’ during an attack on a Baltic convoy. The captain of the ‘Serapis’ was knighted for allowing the convoy to escape.
