John Jervis, Earl St Vincent, 1735-1823 (Before letters)
State before letters. A half-length portrait of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820), in admiral’s full-dress uniform, 1795–1812, with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath, his left arm outstretched. This print was engraved by Robert Laurie after a painting by Gilbert Stuart. The print was published by Laurie and his business partner James Whittle in August 1798 with a dedication to Francis Stephens, a Commissioner of the Victualling Office, who is described as the owner of Stuart’s painting.
