A three-masted barque at a quayside with fishing smacks

Dawson expressed his love of the sea and boats in direct and atmospheric watercolours such as this one. His prints, in particular his soft-ground etchings, are equally direct and embrace subjects as wide ranging as the coast of North Devon and the canals of Venice. The smaller boats here suggest this is probably an English port scene.
