Algesiras (1823)

Hand-coloured. French ship, launched 1823. The Algesiras' career finished in 1847 (see Repertoire des Navires de Guerre Francais, Pierre Le Conte).
The image shows the Algesiras in a choppy sea, near land. Her sails are furled, suggesting she is riding out a storm. There are two smaller vessels nearby and three others in the distance. On the right of the image there is a fort with flags flying and some rocks, indicating the shore.
