A pink with a Dutch ship drying sails

On the right a two-masted pink is in weather-quarter view on the port tack. There is a barge pulling alongside and another barge ahead. On the left, viewed from abaft the starboard beam a ship is at anchor with fore and main topsails, spritsail and driver loosed and fore yard aportlast. There is a flag at the mizzen.

This drawing is one of five that are more compositional in character than others, and carried out in grey wash over very slight pencil and strengthened with pen and ink. It is approximately dated by the subject, but is possibly of some years later.
