Nine caricature figures in 18th century costume
Though the title of this print is missing, knowledge of other work by the amateur caricaturist Henry William Bunbury suggests this is an example of his mockery of social pretension. Each of the nine figures has a presumably much over used phrase given to him by the artist - from left to right the top row say:
Heigh ho
O Fye
Indeed
There now
I thought so
While the row below them say:
The Devil!
No sure
Depend upon it
O Lord, O Lord
Heigh ho
O Fye
Indeed
There now
I thought so
While the row below them say:
The Devil!
No sure
Depend upon it
O Lord, O Lord
