'The Confession'

'The confession' by H. Cook after Alfred Edward Chalon. This print may relate to a story of the same name. A woman with dark flowing gowns is leaning forward to hear the confession of a young boy who is covering his face with his right hand. A younger woman wearing a gown with bare shoulders, is looking down, evidently aggrieved by the confession.

This print is published by the firm Smith, Elder & Co. The brother of Margaret Brodie Herschel (nee Stewart), Peter Stewart worked for Smith, Elder & Co as a printer.
