Britannia crowning the Bust of our late Hero Lord Nelson

Nelson’s death generated a flood of commemorative souvenirs and memorabilia, including many engravings. This created an industry of Nelson image-makers among artists and engravers, who drew upon the traditions of ‘grand manner’ history painting for their representations. Here Britannia is given the features of Emma Hamilton, Nelson’s mistress.
