To the Right Honorable Charles Philip Yorke... This Print... of... American Frigate President... and His Majesty's Sloop the Little Belt... the situation of both Ships... after the Action... 1811
This coloured aquatint by John Hassell, after a drawing by Joseph Cartwright, depicts the engagement between the American ‘President’ and the British ‘Little Belt’; they are shown at left (starboard bow) and right (starboard broadside) respectively, and can be identified by inscriptions at the bottom of the print. Both vessels have shot-through sails with most of the damage inflicted on the ‘Little Belt’. The sky is clear and the waters feature regular waveforms.
The ‘Little Belt’ is entered as taken by J.J. Colledge in ‘Ships of the Royal Navy’, but she reached Halifax and was then taken out of service. She is shown broadside view on the right of the picture.
