Kandawgyi Lake ('Royal Lake') and Shwe Dagon Pagoda in Rangoon [Yangon]

A black and white landscape photograph of Kandawgyi Lake, historically known as the Royal Lake, and the Shwe Dagon Pagoda. In the foreground, at the bottom of the image, the slopes of the grassy bank of the lake can be seen. A slanting tree frames the right of the image. Some of its branches, which have leaves on them, hang down at the top left of the photograph. The lake spans the width of the picture in the middle ground. It reflects the trees and buildings on the shore behind. In the background the far shore is visible, with leafy trees and bushes. On the bank, around the centre of the image, the roof of a building can be seen. The roof is made up of two rectangular shapes beneath a triangular top. A hill rises above the shore of the lake. On this hill, rising high above the trees, the Shwedagon Pagoda can be seen. The dome of the pagoda is topped with tiered layers of decreasing width, in a conical shape. At its peak the hti (an umbrella shaped ornament crowning the dome of a Buddhist monument) points up to the sky.
