A black and white landscape photograph of a Burmese boat filled with rowers at Tavoy [Dawei]. The camerae is looking down on the rowers, with fishing gear and ropes also visible on deck. There are ten young men or visible visible on the boat. They are all shirtless, wearing short trousers. Nine of them are seated with their bodies facing the camera and one man is standing, his body is blurred in movement as he is walking across the boat, facing away from the camera. In the background, at the top of the photograph, the water spans the width of the frame. The boat slants down from the top left of the photograph to the bottom right in a diagonal line. At the top left of the image one boy sits at one end of the boat (probably the stern); he is holding onto the end of a wooden oar with both hands, which spans out over the boat above the water towards the right of the image. He has one bare foot up on the seat in front of him. In front of him, in the left middle ground of the image, another boy sits, holding an oar with both hands. He is leaning slightly over the edge of the boat and his oar dips down into the water at the bottom left on the frame. In front of him there are two rows of young men, on either side of the boat. The boy on the furthest left of the photo sits with his right arm on his oar, his left elbow resting on the oar and his left hand up at his head to block the sun from his eyes. He is looking towards the camera. In front of him, at the centre of the bottom of the photograph another boy holds his oar, which is partially in-frame, with his body angled away from the camera, towards the right of the photograph. A pile of wooden sticks, some bound with rope, lie along the middle of the boat between the rows of rowers. There is a pole standing up from the middle of the boat between the boys, which reaches up off frame. Fabric (probably sails) is tied and bundled a quarter of the way up the pole. Along the other row of boys, sitting on the right of the photograph against the other side of the boat, the one furthest from the camera has a cloth wrapped partially around his head. He is looking down at his hands and his oar is not visible. The next boy is holding onto his oar with both hands and looking towards the walking figure in the foreground. The next boy is sitting with one leg up on his wooden plank, with a pipe in his mouth. The next boy is partially obscured by the bundle of fabric on the pole in front of him. The next boy sitting at the front of this row is mostly blocked from view by the figure walking across him, only one upper arm and half of his face is visible.
