'Resolution' and 'Discovery' at Tahiti

The scene is one of a set of four relating to Cook's third voyage, 1776-80. While it shows a broadly Tahitian view, its original caption stated it was one in Queen Charlotte Sound, New Zealand, which is clearly not the case. For an oil copy derived from this print, and further comment on the view, see BHC1939. For the fourth print in the set, of Cook's death on Hawaii, see PAH7776.
