The British fleet passing Kronborg Castle, 30 March 1801, before the Battle of Copenhagen
Hand-coloured aquatint. The NMM also holds Dodd's accompanying oil (BHC0522; see this item for a fuller description). This scene is likely based on earlier depictions by Nicholas Pocock made in the first five months of 1802 (see PAJ2305 for the drawing and PAJ2500 for the resultant aquatint), which in turn were based on an eyewitness sketch by Robinson Kittoe (PAH4028).
Inscribed: “Passage of the Sound. To Admiral Sir Hyde Parker, this view of the British Fleet under his command, passing the Castle of Cronenbergh [sic] into the Sound, on the 30th of March 1801, engraved in Commemoration of that memorable event, is most respectfully inscribed, by his obedient Servt Robt Dodd.”
Stored with PAI6106, an uncoloured impression.
