Fishing vessels in dock at low tide Onward PH90, Spring Flower, PH45, Girl Joyce PH224

This drawing is sketched in pencil with added details in pen and ink. It shows three Plymouth hookers and a smaller vessel hauled up in front of a building. In the foreground is the prow of another vessel. The three hookers are identified in a pencil inscription in the lower right, ‘L to R. / PH90 Onward / PH45 Springflower / PH224 Girl Joyce’. ‘Onward’ is a motor hooker and the other two are small, single masted open boats, each fitted with an auxiliary motor. The ‘Spring Flower’ has the propeller on the port side of the rudder and the ‘Girl Joyce’ has a screw on the starboard side.

The verso is inscribed in pencil, upper right, ‘Left to right / PH90 Onward / PH45 Springflower / PH224 Girl Joyce / 20/9/33’. The verso is also signed and dated by the artist in the lower right, ‘P.J. Oke / 22.9.33’.
