The Earl of St Vincent. First Lord of the Admiralty. From a picture...for Captn Brenton's Naval History
A half-length portrait to right of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) in a dark coat with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Bath. Lettered beneath the image: ‘The Earl of St. Vincent. First Lord of the Admiralty. From a picture by Sir Wm. Beechey; Engraved by R. Cooper for Captn. Brenton’s Naval History.’ This portrait was engraved by Richard Cooper after William Beechey’s oil painting of 1807–9, now in the National Portrait Gallery. The print was published by Henry Colburn in 1836 as an illustration for Edward Pelham Brenton’s ‘The Naval History of Great Britain, from the Year MDCCLXXXIII to MDCCCXXXVI’ (London: Henry Colburn, 1837), volume 1, opposite page 381.
