Celestial globe gores

Celestial globe gores. Astronomical details on the gores include a labelled magnitude table in a rectangular cartouche below Ursa Minor. The Milky Way is drawn but not labelled. In the constellations Capricorn and Taurus Poniatowski there is a label for a planetary nebula; a total of 58 stars are named. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations are indicated and four of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are drawn. Six of the southern constellations are indicated as well as those of Plancius, all of those of Hevelius and those of Lacaille, except Mensa.

All constellations are in a style close to that of Bale, GLB0255. For full details about the cartography and construction of these gores please refer to the related publication, Globes at Greenwich.
