Gold medal awarded to Sir John Ross (1777-1856). Obverse: Head of Charles XIV (right). Legend: 'CARL XIV JOHAN SVERIGES OCH NORRIGES KONUNG' (Carl Johan, King of Sweden and Norway).
Reverse: Within an oak wreath, inscription: 'FÖR MEDBORGELIG FÖRTJENST' ( for public service). Awarded by the Swedish King to Ross, probably for his service on the staff of the Swedish Admiral Hindric Johan Nauckhoff in 1808.
