Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727)
A small bust of Sir Isaac Newton on a round socle. He is depicted bare headed with draped shoulders. The bust is a reduced version of one of a number of life-size busts made of Newton by Louis-François Roubilliac. This version was created by Benjamin Cheverton on his replicating machine (now in the Science Museum). The machine was feted at the Great Exhibition in 1851. The reverse of this bust is inscribed: 'Roubiliac fect Cheverton sc'.
