Leading Stoker Frederick Chapman Minchin RN (1879-1925) joined the Royal Navy on 18 May 1898. He was in 'King Alfred' on her voyage out as flagship of the China station in 1906 and while in the Far East, he served in river gunboat HMS 'Kinsha' until 1908. He left the Royal Navy and transferred to the Royal Naval Reserve, Portsmouth on 9 July 1910, but re-joined the Royal Navy during the next year. He was in HMS 'Canada' from 10 August 1915 until the end of the war. 'Canada' took part in the Battle of Jutland but suffered no casualties. Minchin was discharged on 3 October 1921. He returned to Chedworth his place of birth and died in Gloucestershire in 1925.
