Naval Gold Medal (Captain's) for Lissa 1811
Captain's Naval Gold Medal for Lissa, awarded to Captain, later Admiral Sir Phipps Hornby (1785-1867). Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscription: 'CAPTAIN PHIPPS HORNBY VOLAGE XIII MAR MDCCCXI A FRENCH SQUADRON OF SUPERIOR FORCE DEFEATED'. The medal has been mounted with a gold rim and glazed with a watch glass on both sides to protect the surface. It is suspended from a white ribbon with dark blue edges with a loop and bar, a gold buckle and a pin.
