Pistol

Flintlock pistol. The pistol has a stock which is fully stocked and decorated with scrolls of wire inlay. The rounded buttcap bears a grotesque mask above which there is a silver escutcheon plate consisting of a shield surmounted by an antique helmet placed above two guns, a flag and a trumpet. The pistol has a sideplate which is secured by two nails and is military in character. The sideplate consists of a rudder, flags, a cuirass, guns, shot and scroll work. The trigger guard is made from iron with an acorn finial while the ramrod pipes are plain and also made from iron. There is a wooden ramrod which has an ivory tip. The pistol has a sidelock flintlock. The pistol bears on the lockplate traces of engraved decoration. The barrel is octagonal in the external section for the first three eights of its length and then it is circular. The military nature of much of the decoration may not necessarily indicate a military owner but the pistol is a fair size.
