Astronomical regulator Dent No. 2
Clock, astronomical regulator. In the 1820s, Edward John Dent established himself as one of London's finest clockmakers, and in particular found much favour at the Royal Observatory Greenwich. He made his reputation by producing clocks, such as this regulator, to the very highest standards. Every aspect of manufacture has been expertly executed, from the high-style Egyptian case design, to the massively constructed brass movement, fitted with every sophistication of the period. In its retirement at Herstmonceux Castle, Sussex, and later at Cambridge, this clock stood in the library.
