Medal, Institut National des Sciences et des Arts

Silver medal of the Institut National Des Sciences et des Arts, given to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne (1732-1811), on his election as a Foreign Associate. Obverse: A helmeted bust of Minerva (right). Legend: 'INSTITUT NATIONAL DES SCIENCES ET DES ARTS CONSTIT. ART. LXXXVII'. Reverse: Within a wreath, the inscription 'MASKELYNE ASSOCIÉ ÉTRANGER'. Maskelyne was elected to the Institut in 1802 as one of only eight foreign members.
