Murdering Slaves That Become Exhausted / Bringing in Slaves to the Shaka Market

Page taken from 'Heroes of the Dark Continent' a book with 500 wood-engraved illustrations, by several hands, plus colour-printed plates, published in America in 1889 by James William Buel (1849-1920). There is text above and below the image which is titled 'Murdering Slaves That Become Exhausted', on p. 321. On the reverse (p.322 of the book) is a smaller image titled: 'Bringing in Slaves to the Shaka Market' which is signed 'BARBA...' (BARBANT on other pages where fully included) in the bottom right-hand corner.

James William Buel (1849-1920) published his 'Heroes of the Dark Continent', and how 'Stanley found Emin Pasha' in various editions across North America in 1889-90. The book, which deals with European exploration of Africa, with illustrations, many of them quite shockingly graphic depictions of the appalling brutality of the East and Central African slave trade.
