Mauser Model 1893

Mauser Model 1893 rifle. It is virtually fully stocked to the muzzle. A sling is fitted to the rifle. Bolt operated with a five shot integral box magazine. The barrel is rifled. It is fitted with a folding carriage rearsight graduated in Turkish and a blade foresight. The calibre is 7.65mm. There are additional Turkish inscriptions on this rifle. Stamped on the butt is 'B B RAZIER CERA (Chief Engine Room Artificer) HMS 'Odin' KURNAH 1914'. HMS 'Odin' was present at the capture of Qurnah (Iraq) by British Forces, 9 December 1914. She was a sloop built in 1901 and sold in 1920 in Bombay. See 'The Neglected War' by A J Barker (published by Faber & Faber 1967).
