Medal commemorating the pirate Claus Störtzenbecher (died 1401) and Admiral Jean Bart (1651-1702). Obverse: Bust of the pirate Claus Störtzenbecher in a feathered cap and embroidered tunic (three-quarters right), slashed doublet, metal ring around neck. Legend: 'CLAUS STÖRTZENBECHER . PYRATA FAMOS.' (Claus Störtzenbecher, the famous pirate.) Exergue: 'HAMBURGI NECAT . A . 1401 .' (Executed at Hamburg 1401.) Reverse: Bust of Admiral Jean Bart, in a long wig, armour and mantle. Legend: 'IEAN BAERT . PYRATA GALLORVM MAXIMVS.' (Jean Bart, the greatest of French pirates.) Exergue: 'NON IDEM OMNIB . FATVM .' (Fate is not the same for all.)
