Counter commemorating the launch of the Bucintoro III, 1727. Obverse: St Mark seated (left), handing the sacred flag to the Doge kneeling (right). Legend: 'S * M * V *ALOY * MOCENI . D .' Exergue: 'ANN VI'. Reverse: Port broadside view of the Bucintoro with twelve pairs of oars; four gondolas below, the sun above (left), bursting through the clouds. Legend: 'NON EST INVEN : SIMILIS ILLI.' (None ever found its equal.) Exergue: '1727'. This was the last of the famous barges built for the ceremony of the wedding of Venice to the Adriatic.
