Counter commemorating the liberty of the seas and peace with England, 1783. Obverse: Bust of King Louis XVI in a wig tied with a bow, uniform and ribbon of order (right). Legend: 'LUD . XVI . REX CHRISTIANISS.' Reverse: Inscription within an oak wreath tied with a bow. Inscription: 'LIBERTÉ DES MERS PAIX DE 1783.' (Freedom of the seas. Peace of 1783.) This refers to the independence of the American colonies.
