Silver medal. Obverse: A seaman leaning on a gun. Legend within a rope twist border: ‘ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY.' Reverse: Legend: ‘ARETHUSA TRAINING SHIP. Inscription: ‘PRESENTED BY THE COMMITTEE TO WILLIAM H. JAMES [incuse] ON HIS RETURN FROM SECOND VOYAGE WITH GOOD CHARACTER.’
Awarded to grandfather of donor. William Henry James was born in 1871 in London, he emigrated to Australia in the 1890s.
