Medal commemorating the destruction of the 'Emden', 1914. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of HMAS 'Sydney'. Legend: 'TO COMMEMORATE THE VICTORY OVER THE EMDEN' (below) 'H.M.A.S. SYDNEY, 9TH NOV. 1914.' Reverse: Inscription within a laurel wreath tied with a bow, a swan above, 'PRESENTED BY THE PEOPLE OF AUSTRALIA TO S.G. SMALE, ABLE SEAMAN'. Recipient's name and title incuse. Fitted with a loop and ring.
