Eight of the buttons have a rope twist edge. Within a raised circular border on a smooth background is a post-1901 crown over a fouled anchor with the rope appearing from under the right-hand side of the stock to go over the shank to the left and then under the shank to the right and finishes under the right arm. Commissioned officers.

Within a raised circular border on a lined background is a pre-1901 crown over a fouled anchor with the rope appearing from under the right-hand side of the stock, it then goes over the shank to the left and then back under the shank to the right and finishes under the right arm. Commissioned officers.
