A set of magic lantern slides designed to accompany a lecture on the Sun. The slides carry a trademark consisting of a letter Y with a serpent coiled round it, the trademark of the photographers and lantern slide-manufacturers, York & Son. The subjects include sunspots, texture of the solar surface, photoheliographs, the solar spectrum, spectroscopes and eclipses 1836-1869. Many of the slides use illustrations from books by men of science who worked on solar physics in the 19th century.
