Cast of a medal commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805)
Cast of a medal commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Obverse: Bust of George III laureate (right). Legend: 'GEORGIVS III PIVS FELIX PATER PATRIAM'. Scratched below '1807'. Reverse: The Admiral's bust (left), full uniform, hair plaited behind, cloak gathered round just below the epaulettes. Legend: 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON.' Below: 'BORN 29 SEPT.R 1758.' The obverse is the same as the king's bust on the Trinity College (Dublin) Prize Medal. The reverse may be attributed to Peter or Thomas Wyon, probably the former.
