Medal commemorating the voyage of HMS 'Terror' 1836-1837. Obverse: Britannia seated. Reverse: A crown, inscription below: 'H.M.S. TERROR CAPTN BACK 1836'. Punched with a suspension hole. George Back 'Narrative of an Expedition in HMS Terror...' (London, 1838) p.416 'Four noisy natives of the Esquimaux race had the hardihood to venture through much difficult ice to the ship ... some of the presents, supplied by the government, were given to them, together with a few brass medals, having the ship's name on one side, and a figure of Britannia on the other.'
