Ingot depicting a Roman grain ship, second century AD

Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Port broadside view of a Roman grain ship, sail set. Inscription: 'ROMAN GRAIN SHIP'. Reverse: Inscription, 'ROMAN GRAIN SHIP Second Century A.D. Built for strength and capacity, the Grain Ship was a mainstay of the Roman Empire. It carried grain from distant ports to support Rome's growing population. The average Grain Ship could hold 340 tons of cargo. The ship had two square sails, a large mainsail and a smaller spritsail. It sometimes had two triangular topsails.'
