Ingot commemorating the 'Golden Hind'
Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of Sir Francis Drake's flagship the 'Golden Hind', sails set. Inscription: 'GOLDEN HIND'. Reverse: Inscription, 'GOLDEN HIND 1577-1580. The flagship of Francis Drake, the "Golden Hind" attacked Spanish treasure ships in the Pacific and sailed round the world to deliver her precious cargo to Queen Elizabeth I of England. Built as a merchantman, the "Golden Hind" carried 18 cannons and became one of the most successful privateers in history.'
