Awarded for service on Nares' Arctic expedition 1875. Obverse: Short bust of Queen Victoria crowned and veiled (left). Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1876'. Signed on truncation: 'G.G. ADAMS. SC.'

Reverse: Starboard broadside view of a ship fast in the ice, clouds above. Near edge: 'L.C.W.' Inscription on edge: 'J. HAND, A.B. H.M.S.DISCOVERY'.
