Mug

A large stoneware tankard decorated in relief with an oval cartouche depicting the taking of Porto Bello in 1739; 'PORTO BELLO' in relief below. '1741' is incised beneath the cartouche. Trees and cottages are applied on either side of the tankard and there is a a stag hunting scene running around the bottom. The mug has a silver or Sheffield plate rim and a flared base. The colour is graduated from dark brown at the top to pale buff at the bottom.
