Horatio Nelson, 1758 - 1805, 1st Viscount Nelson, Vice-Admiral of the White
Oval enamel process miniature in an elaborate moulded gilt composition presentation frame with a wooden back and a suspension ring for wall or cabinet display. The bust-length portrait is a copy of Abbott's of 1799 (BHC2889) showing Nelson as a rear-admiral, and wearing in his hat the diamond chelengk presented to him by the Sultan of Turkey after the Battle of the Nile (1798). It is apparently a mechanically produced reproduction, not an individual one, and is part of the Sutcliffe-Smith Collection of Nelsoniana (no.181).
