Portable telescope
This non-achromatic telescope was made in France in the late 18th century. It has a green rayskin (shagreen) barrel and a single green vellum draw tube. The lenses are set in lignum vitae with silver mounts. There is a black stop line near the eyepiece end of the draw tube.
The maker's name is stamped onto the draw tube: ‘SAYDE / OPTICIEN DU ROY / A PARIS’.
