Suez Canal - Inauguration of the Monument to Ferdinand de Lesseps, 17 November 1899

A green cloth covered album entitled in embossed gold letters: "Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez - Inauguration due Monument de Ferdinand de Lesseps - 17 November 1899".

The album contains 76 photogravures (of paintings and photographs) with captions in French relating to the activities, events, and places to do with the modernisation of the Suez Canal and the monument to de Lesseps. The general themes within the album are:

1) Portrait photographs - the three presidents of the company: de Lesseps, Guichard, and Prince August d'Arenberg; His Highness The Khedive Abbas Pacha Hilmi
2) Views of the monument to de Lesseps
3) Events surrounding the inauguration of the monument - speeches by the main participants
4) Photographs of Port Said - the Company's Office, the city and harbour, the Arsenal's dockyard, the water works
5) The train from Port Said to Ismailia
6) Views of the Suez Canal - ships in transit, dredging,
7) Views of Ismailia - from the canal including the Saint Vincet Hospital, Port Captian's Offices and transit dock, train station and Timsah Lake, and the Bureaux offices.
8) Views of Port Thewfik and the canal, the church and girld school, and the oil tanks.
