National flag of France (1794-1814, after 1830)
French national flag from 1794-1814, and after 1830. Cotton, printed design, machine sewn. No hoist attachment. Three vertical stripes blue, white, red. The blue part of the design enfolded in a piece of coarser material part blue, part white. Sixteen rounded holes. Supposedly a relic of the Battle of Trafalgar but this is unlikely. Label: "French tricolor taken at Trafalgar. Donor J Rochelle Thomas Esq. Flag was given by Admiral Sir Peter Parker to T..." Associations dubious.
