Case lid for one of a number of diminutive waterline models of naval and merchant ships by the miniaturist Charles Hampshire. This example is typical of his work, depicting HMS ‘London’ at speed on a bright and breezy sea. There is a plaque on the bottom of the lid which is inscribed: "64 feet to the inch scale model HMS London 10, 000 ton cruiser. Modelled by Chas Hampshire MIR MARE 1933".
