Celestial navigational globe

Lid for celestial navigational globe. Astronomical details on the sphere are almost exactly the same as Schotte & Co, GLB0182. The only exceptions being that the two serial numbers in the inscriptions are 1455 and N/210, and this example has a removable metal cover.

Constellations are only drawn for the zodiac; the others are outlined by contours. The stars are depicted by different symbols, but a magnitude table is lacking. The Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds and the stars are labelled. A total of 56 stars and six star groups are named. The 48 Ptolemaic constellations and seven of the non-Ptolemaic constellations are outlined. Several of the southern constellations are outlined as well those of Hevelius, apart from five that are missing. Those of Lacaille are outlined, except Reticulum. For full details about the cartography and construction of this globe please refer to the related publication.
