Sophia Maskelyne (1752-1821)
This pastel drawing is the pair to that of the sitter's husband, Nevil Maskelyne, ZBA5100, and presumed to be of the same date. The fact that Mrs Maskelyne was 50 in the same year as her husband was 70 (1802) is a fair reason for supposing their portraits may have marked that happy coincidence. [PvdM 6/14]
