Captain W. S. Nicholson and Commander K. B. Toms with the 'Aurora's' tug-of-war team.
A view along the starboard side of the quarterdeck on the light cruiser 'Aurora' (1913). Captain Wilmot S Nicholson and Commander Kenneth B. Toms are sitting with the ship's 11-man tug-of-war team just forward of the after blast screen. The team includes a stoker (standing 5th from left) and a Royal Marine (standing 7th from left), as well as a stoker petty officer (left), and a torpedo? petty officer (right) kneeling at the front.
On 29 August the ship landed a working party and a sports party for the races. This may have included the tug-of-war team, as there is mention a sports team going ashore in the log for August. [Ship's log, TNA, ADM 53/34495].
