Blue jasper portrait medallion depicting Captain James Cook (1728-1779). A reissue of the original modelled by John Flaxman. It was made to celebrate the bicentenary of Cook's first voyage. Cook is shown in profile, facing to the right, in uniform within a laurel wreath border. Inscribed on the reverse: 'BICENTENARY OF COOK'S FIRST VOYAGE. 200 Copies made for Maggs Bross Ltd 21st July 1968'. The maker's name is impressed on the back.
