A starboard bow view of the Tsungming cotton trader type junk 10143 under sail of the Whangpu River at Shanghai

A starboard side view, taken from ahead of the beam, of the two masted Tsungming cotton trader junk 10143 under sail on the Whangpu River at Shanghai. She has two tall masts with an elongated rectangular sail hoisted to full height on each mast. Each sail has 18 bamboo battens. The junk's port number is painted on the bow and she a leeboard deployed amidships. Lighters deeply laden with sacks are in the background. The photographer's ship was in Northern Chinese waters in the periods 3 June to 10 October 1937 and 8 June to 4 September 1938. A vertical format negative. Negative number P34468 is also of this vessel.
